What is it?

  • The teams phase setting allows course authors to configure whether phases should be taken as individuals or collaboratively as teams of students. Additionally, the Peer Review setting can enable students to view the work of other teams and/or individuals working on the same Phase.

Why is it important?

  • The team settings for cases is important because it establishes the scoring behavior of Allele for the students. If phases are taken as teams, all students on the team will have the same question responses, points, etc. Conversely, if the setting is configured to Individuals, each student will receive their own individual credit for the work they have done within the case and phases.

Settings

  • Individuals: Each student will do their own, independent work on the assigned case.
  • Teams: Students will be added to a team and all of the work done within a case will apply uniformly to each student on the team.
  • Peer Review (with Individuals selected): Upon completion of a phase, each individual student will the ability to view and leave observations on the work of other students that have completed the phase.
  • Peer Review (with Teams selected): Upon completion of a phase, each team of students will the ability to view and leave observations on the work of other Teams of students that have completed the phase.

Did You Know?

Enabling team-based learning can be a powerful technique to support active teaching methodologies such as CBL and TBL. Additionally, having scores uniformly applied to all members of a team can greatly diminish administrative time on grading!
